About Samosa’s Algorithm

Abhilash Inumella - Founder and CEO of  Samosa says, ‘We built a very strong algorithm to govern the feed of the app. We focussed a lot of efforts on engineering. We acquired 10 million users, before spending even a penny on marketing.

We used to sort the content in terms of shares to impressions ratio. If the ratio was high, it used to be shown on top of the feed. Users used to share this content in their Whatsapp status with the Samosa logo. Looking at the logo, their connections would download the app. We got 10 million users with this simple process.’

1. Create a Dub - Feature Discovery Campaign
Challenge

Samosa app launched a new feature called “Create a dub”, and using Apxor’s insights Samosa understood that this feature was proving to be helpful in getting users to create and post their own content.

However, the feature itself was not easily discoverable even by the power users of Samosa app. There was a need to gently nudge the users towards this feature.

Solution

Using Apxor’s Behavior Correlation Framework, Samosa app found out that the users who showed an interest in a movie promotion campaign by searching and watching a related video, were more likely to use the “Create a Dub” feature.

Samosa started  a Contextual Walkthrough campaign, using Apxor, for the discovery of the new feature. This campaign was shown only to the users who had showed an interest in a movie promotion campaign by searching and watching a related video but did not discover the Create a Dub feature yet.

Impact
